Extra Care
What is Extra Care?
Extra Care is the name given to a type of housing which can offer older people the flexibility of living in purpose built accommodation that is supported by on-site staff working 24 hours a day, providing care and support as and when it is needed.
Extra Care housing allows you to remain independent. You will have your own apartment or bungalow and should you need care and support it will be individually designed around your needs. Properties are specifically designed to offer security, ease of access and include many features which are valued by older people.
What can I expect at an Extra Care Scheme?
Extra Care housing offers a range of community facilities, although this will differ from scheme to scheme. These can include communal lounges, restaurants, cafés shops and health services. As well as homes for rent some Extra Care schemes have properties for sale, either outright or on a shared ownership basis.
Extra Care housing provides a home for many older people who require little or no care, as well as those who require more intensive care packages. We work hard to maintain this balanced community at each scheme
Who can live in Extra care housing?
Extra Care housing is aimed at over 55's who have a clear need for the care and support services that are provided. Some people move in with high levels of care and support but you can still be considered if you don't have any care needs but require some support.
Priority is given to people who already live in St Helens or Warrington although people who have an existing or former association with the town can also be considered.
People who are currently considering a move into sheltered housing are eligible for Extra Care housing. Applicants do not have to bid for Extra Care housing.
